Hi from Hawaii!

Went to Hawaii for a short break the Summer of ‘24. Surfers, sea turtles, endless poke, and lots of sun (reapply that sunscreen!). A sweet, slow trip – didn’t plan much, but sometimes that’s the best kind. Hope to go back soon and explore more!

So here’s the full scoop, just for you:

Have you ever woken up from a dream and wondered if it was real? Or questioned your own reality? That was Hawaii in the summer of '24.

The beaches were stunning, but one thing I quickly learned: the sun burns. I do not usually burn easily, but this trip was a good reminder to keep reapplying sunscreen (lesson learned!).

As for recommendations, they are limited. I did not plan much this time, which is rare for my type A self. This trip felt like a break, an intermission in my life – still moving, but as if I was on autopilot. My brain needed rest from school, work, and life. (P.S. this was right after planning an entire Europe trip for my family!) I also started my summer class during the trip, which probably added to the blur.

I wish I had carried my camera around more, but honestly, we stayed mostly on the mainland. I hope to return to Hawaii again, next time with more time, more exploring, and yes, a very type A itinerary.

Trip Highlights

  • It was one of the first trips where I do not remember every little detail, but I do remember being present. One of my favorite memories was watching a beautiful dog swimming through the bluest waves, then happily trotting along the beach with its owner. I remember thinking, this is what life should feel like.

  • I can still reminisce about the free-spirited vibe, the garlic shrimp truck, and the delicious coconut.

  • As a rock collector, when I travel and love bringing one back as a souvenir. But even that was off limits here. Our driver told us not to take anything from the land, as it is considered bad luck. So I do not even have a rock from this trip. Honestly, everything feels like a dream now, except for these postcards to prove I was there.

Just wingin’ it
